Oakland Park is located in the central part of Broward County at only 3 miles north of Fort Lauderdale, a population of approximately 42,000 residents that share a small town vision and is determined to provide and maintain a healthy economical grown of its residents.
The city is going through an ambitious revitalization project of its downtown and business district into a Main Street pedestrian community with an attractive shopping district, sidewalk cafes and restaurants as well as first class condominiums and apartment lofts. This project is being financed with grants, private investments and a loan from the Florida League of Cities; it will transform about 150 acres of warehousing area into a much needed business district, and intersection of commerce and community.
The community boasts first rate private and public schools, like the oldest school still in use of Broward; Oakland Park Elementary School was declared a National Landmark in 1988. Additionally, has world class shopping malls like Coral Ridge Mall and outstanding recreational facilities, some of the best parks and stunning tall oaks can be found here. The community organizes several well known events like October Fest, concerts and art fairs. Originally incorporated in 1909 under the name of Floranada was subsequently changed to Oakland Park in 1929 after financial difficulties caused by the 1926 Hurricane, took the name from its famous trees.
Easy access to all mayor Florida highways and just 1 mile away from the beautiful beaches of Fort Lauderdale with affordable housing and commercial property sure makes a nice neighborhood to live in
