Miami Lakes

Incorporate in 2000, Miami Lakes is one of the youngest towns in the Miami Dade County, Florida. However, you can date the original development of the area to 1962 when Sengra (now Graham Companies) started development on the land belonging to Florida State Senator, Ernest Graham. It was originally planned to have a 30-year development period but development is still not complete.

Planned by Lester Collins, the town has curving tree-shaded roadways to complement the curving lakes. This was different from the usual straight treeless roads with square-shaped lakes you see elsewhere in the US.
The main attraction of the town is a town center by the name of Main Street. Grahams still own a major portion of the town. Spread over an area of 6.52 square miles, this town has 0.85 square miles comprising of lakes with the balance making up for the land area.
The town has a decent population of 30,873 as on 2016 with 92% of the people belonging to the Whites Caucasian or Hispanic communities. The Hispanic communities comprise nearly 81% of this figure. Hence, you find the main language of town as Spanish as compared to English. You have a lot of Arabs as well in this town. Hence, you can hear a lot of Urdu poetry in these areas.

Headed by a Mayor, you have a six member council to govern the town. This town recognizes the contribution of the veterans with the construction of a unique Veteran’s Memorial at the Royal Oaks Park Community Center.
There are many public schools in this area. All these schools owe allegiance to Miami-Dade County Public Schools. You also have one private school, Our Lady of the Lakes.
This is a quiet town with scope for continuous real estate development. Being the youngest of the municipalities in the area, it is a well-planned one.
